The 11th Zhejiang University Qiushi Tutor School Was Successfully Held

On December 16, 2019, the eleventh Zhejiang University QiushiTutor School was held in Linshui Lecture Hall at Zijingang Campus of ZhejiangUniversity.
Professor Lin Jianhua, who previously served as president ofChongqing University, president of Zhejiang University and president of Peking University,and Professor Ye Gaoxiang, who previously served as vice party secretary ofZhejiang University, president of Hangzhou Normal University and president ofZhejiang University of Science & Technology, made speeches to share theirteaching experience.
Professor Lin Jianhua pointed out that the core objective foruniversity education is to nurture high-caliber talents. The first-class universitywould gather the best scholars and students, and provide them a favorableacademic environment to unleash their full potential. Given that China’s highereducation now faces a dilemma of lacking innovation research, insufficientcultivation of top-notch innovative talents and unbalanced distribution ofhigher education resources, we should take the initiative to embrace reform andinnovation to promote the development of China's education. In the future,China's postgraduate education, on the basis of learning from good experienceabroad, should find its own way out to establish an education system withChinese characteristics, entering a new stage. Prof. Lin’s foresight and deepthinking on education is indeed thought-provoking, which effectively inspires newlyrecruited tutors to assume more responsibility of educating people in the newera.
Professor Ye Gaoxiang talked about some unforgettable experienceswhen studying abroad, and impressed listeners on how rigorous the academicatmosphere is in top foreign universities. He mentioned academic misconductproblems existing in domestic academic circles and emphasized the importance ofmaintaining academic morals of high-level talents. He pointed out that theoriginal mission of education is to "educate talents for the Party and theCountry" and "the future of students is the future ofuniversities". Attaching importance to student development and cultivatingthe backbone of the country is the foundation of colleges and universities.Newly recruited tutors should always keep the original intention of educationin mind, actively participate in the education reform practice, furtherincrease awareness and implement responsibilities, so as to effectivelyguarantee and improve the quality of postgraduate education.
Professor Zhou Tianhua, dean of the Graduate School, presidedover the meeting and delivered a speech for the ceremony. He introduced thatZhejiang University's "Qiushi Tutor School" was established in 2007and has been held for ten sessions so far. A total of more than 2,300 mentorsand over 400 tutors from more than ten universities in Zhejiang Province haveparticipated in the study.
More than 250 new recruited tutors of Zhejiang University andover 100 representatives of tutors from Zhejiang University of Technology,Hangzhou Normal University, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, Zhejiang MediaCollege, Huzhou Teachers College and faculty members of Zhejiang UniversityGraduate School attended the training.
